The design in the center of the Fishers of Men counted cross stitch pattern was influenced by an Italian needlework chart from the early 1900s. The New Testament Bible verse on this nautical and fish themed cross stitch design is, “And He saith unto them, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 King James Version, KJV.
The chart for this counted cross stitch pattern is done in colored squares with symbols, for easier stitching. This design uses whole stitches, back stitching, and French knots. Pattern Thread Color Key provides DMC thread color numbers.

Jane sent me a photo of her beautifully finished project…
She stitched it in her choice of shades of blue and used a distressed gray frame. I love it! These color choices really stay with the nautical theme.
Shown below are different ideas for this design, such as using a cream aida fabric color, stitching the design in monochrome, or using a different mat color idea when framing.
