The Antique Red Rooster counted cross stitch sampler design comes with two charts; one with the original wording in French, and a second one charted with the alphabet in place of the French phrase. This alphabet was developed using the letters in the original work.
This pattern is an adaptation of a 19th century French pillow cover. The cross stitching on the original work was done with red cotton embroidery thread on plain weave cotton fabric. The chart with the original work includes the phrase: QUAND CE COQ CHANTERA MON A MITIĒ FINIRA.
