Fabric recommendation:
Zweigart Rustico or Charles Craft Fiddlers Cloth in Oatmeal, in 16 or 14 count.

The illustrations below show Dog stitched in different colors on cream aida and white aida. They give the main color for Dog, and the secondary color for the heart, ear, and eye. Be careful when changing the color, that it will show well on your choice of fabric.
If you would like a charcoal gray (almost black) dog, you can stitch Dog using DMC 3799, and stitch the heart, ear, and eye using DMC 3866.
If you would like a light yellow lab, you can stitch Dog using DMC 739, and stitch the heart, ear, and eye using DMC 434. (Be careful with your fabric color with this option, making sure Dog is going to show up on the fabric you choose.)
